Tom has been involved in the information technology industry for over forty years.  He had his first exposure during an experimental Electronic Data Processing class while in high school.  Later, while an undergraduate at NC State University, Tom took a Computer Science course and “found a home”. He ultimately became a member of the first graduating class to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from NC State University.

During his career he has worked for Information technology leaders such as IBM, AT&T, Western Electric, Bell Labs, Unix System Laboratories and Novell.  He has worked with Mainframe systems, mid-range systems and personal computers as well as a variety of local and wide area networking systems.

Tom has a real love for seeing people learn and grow and has taught such varied subjects as
Programming, Numerical Analysis and Website Design at the university and community college
levels.

Tom started tdburns, inc. in 1994 as a technology consulting firm supporting small and medium sized businesses in central North Carolina.  Over the years he has been involved in helping his customers apply emerging information technologies to solve a variety of business critical problems.  During this time he recognized the vast potential that the internet presented for redefining many common business paradigms.  In response, he began redirecting tdburns, inc. more and more into internet based technologies and finally into becoming an internet marketing firm

Tom’s broad experience gives him a solid foundation to not only apply current technologies in the solutions to his customers’ problems, but to also plan for and easily adopt and adapt emerging technologies as they become available.

When he’s not involved with technology, Tom likes to relax in his country home with his wife and their collection of three dogs and two cats.  He also likes to travel to Scotland as frequently as possible to visit his daughter, son-in-law and five grandchildren.  Since he is an amateur photographer, there are many exhibits of his visits to Scotland on the walls in his office.
